Sandals to save and open toes to toss

So we’re not quite at the end of the summer yet and hopefully there are some sunny days left to come, but followers of fashion, it’s time to prepare for autumn – we’re called The Upcoming for a reason you know!
A little preparation never hurt anyone, and knowing which of your summer shoes uk you can make work for autumn, winter and even SS2014 is the perfect way to stay ahead of the curve. An added bonus is that if you’ve left things fairly late this year and you’re grabbing some summer sandals in the sales, you can make the right choice.
Neon – this year only
Neon is an absolutely huge trend this summer and, though we never thought we’d embrace the nu-rave vibe in any way at all, we have enjoyed the odd neon sandal. This Maison Martin Margiela pair for example, are flattering, minimalist and on trend all at once. But there’s a reason they’re on sale…
Neon will be a distant memory by SS2014, so these sandals have a limited shelf life. Work them for the next few months and then send them to a better place, maybe Oxfam.

Flatforms – style up for autumn
What’s that, open toes in autumn? No, we haven’t totally lost it, you really can make your summer sandals work for you as skies darken and temperatures drop this year. Well, as long as you’re fairly brave when it comes to puddles.
Those flatforms (a comfy flat shoe on a high-ish platform) you invested in back in the spring – and which look great with your denim cut offs – work equally well for a relaxed evening look in Autumn/Winter, like a heel but without any discomfort. Style block-heeled or flatform sandals with loose midi lengths, ankle-skimming cocktail trousers or even black opaques for something really fashion-forward. More tips on this here.
If you’re still in the market for a summer steal, this cork pair by New Look are available in colour popping blue or versatile black.
Minimalist – store for next season
Two strap sandals have been everywhere this summer and paired back simple footwear is going nowhere fast, so keep your minimalist two strap sandals safe this season and they could last you well in to next year. Not keen on cutting off your calves with a thick ankle strap? The Guardian’s fashion editor Jess Cartner-Morely has some great advice on getting around this. We picked up this pair oftwo strap beauties earlier in the season and will definitely be checking back to see what else is available from Jones the Bootmaker’s collection of ladies sandals uk before the end of the summer.
So there you have it, a roundup of the sandals to store, style up, and sadly… say goodbye to when SS13 draws to a close.
